The Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled Whiskey

The Glasgow Distillery Company has recently launched its next triple distilled expression: the Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled.

The new edition is the third and final release in the distillery’s core range, which includes the 1770 Peated expression launched in 2019, and Glasgow 1770 Original which debuted in 2018. The producer also unveiled a new edition of its peated bottling in October 2020. This new triple distilled edition is slightly different than its predecessor in distillation process and has new elements.

Glasgow constantly influences us. When we talk about the city to those who don’t know it, we say it’s more industrious than industrial – it’s somewhere that doesn’t stand still and always strives to go one better. And that was our inspiration for 1770.

According to ScotchWhiskey.com, Liam Hughes, CEO and co-founder

Distillation Process

The latest 1770 Triple Distilled is crafted from malted barley and distilled three times in traditional copper pot stills at the Glasgow Distillery and combined with the pure water of Loch Katrine, similar to Triple Distilled Release No.1. The new edition has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks, married together before bottling to produce a ‘smooth and vibrant whiskey’ whereas the Triple Distilled Release No. 1 was matured exclusively in virgin oak casks .

Tasting Notes

Nose– Notes of sweet vanilla and white chocolate leading to fresh summer fruits of aromatic apple, pear and peaches.

Palate– Smooth balance of vibrant vanilla, soft caramel and double cream. Followed by ‘delicate’ floral notes by orchard fruits and berries and a sweet almond nuttiness.

Finish– Long and lingering with notes of rich honey, anise and black pepper and hints of warming woody spice; giving the spicy finish.

It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered. It prices for RRP £49 (US$67.78) from glasgowdistillery.com.

About Glasgow Distillery

The Glasgow Distillery Company was established in 2012 by Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian McDougall. In 2015, the distillery released the first expression in their now five-strong range of award-winning gin, Makar Original Dry Gin, which is also Glasgow’s first gin. In 2018, the distillery launched Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky with Release No. 1 in 2018, followed by the release of a Peated expression in 2019 and the release of a Triple Distilled expression in 2020. Together, these three expressions will collectively form the 1770 Signature Range. Since the beginning of 2019, 1770 has shared gold medal status with some of the world’s greatest spirits across multiple competitions, taking home six gold medals in the second half of 2019 alone.

In 2019, the distillery also released their first rum, Banditti Club Rum, followed by the soft launch of their G52 Botanical Vodka, which consists of G52 Fresh Citrus and G52 Rich Coffee.

The latest Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled will also be available to try alongside four other award winning whiskies from the Glasgow distiller when you book on to one of the distillery’s virtual whisky tastings.

So, indulge in this delicious and delicate whiskey!
