Old Soul Bourbon gets its release from Mississippi’s Oldest Distillery

Old Soul Straight Bourbon Whiskey gets launched by the Cathead Distillery, Mississippi’s first and oldest legal distillery. The debut is the recent release for 2021 and is released in small batches.

Old Soul is the perfect metaphor for our bourbon. One that is thoughtfully crafted with a nod to both tradition & the future.

According to Cathead Distillery

Old Soul Bourbon is a precise blend of two whiskeys with an identical high-rye mash bill and aged for four and five years. The whiskey is aged onsite at Jackson, MS-based distillery. The strong Southern heat and humidity offer an ideal environment for maturation, which incorporates Old Soul to produce older flavor notes throughout its maturation.

Finally, the bourbon whiskey has a high-rye mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley.

Just 88 barrels of Cathead’s Old Soul Bourbon are produced. Each barrel is reviewed by nose & palate by the team and expertly blended from whiskeys distilled in Indiana & Mississippi. A perfect twist of hand-made and hand-selected bourbon whiskey.

Cathead Co-Founders Richard Patrick and Austin Evans, along with distiller Phillip Ladner developed the spirit. This release boasts a more mature flavor profile compared to its predecessors.

Adding rare and unique bourbons to our whiskey portfolio continues to be a major focus for us. With a nod to bourbon traditions of the past and future whiskeys to come, we’re thrilled to share this high-rye Old Soul rendition with Cathead loyalists and whiskey fans, alike.”

said Cathead Co-Founder Richard Patrick in a prepared statement.

The Cathead Distillery

“Cathead” is a compliment in Mississippi, first coined back in the day by blues musicians as a nod to artists they respect. Cathead Distillery was founded in 2010 by blues fans and friends, Austin Evans and Richard Patrick. The distillery is the first legal and oldest distillery in the state of Mississippi. The distillery is located at 422 S Farish St, Jackson, MS 39201, United States. The distillation for spirits is led by Phillip Ladner. Cathead Distillery currently produces six products in small batches: Cathead Original Vodka, Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Cathead Bitter Orange Vodka, Bristow Gin, Hoodoo Chicory Liquor, and Old Soul Bourbon Whiskey. You can tour the distillery and enjoy small samples of their spirits along with popcorn. They also organize music concerts to show their love for music and blues musicians.

Enjoy the Old Soul Bourbon whiskey plain over rocks, or try the excellent whiskey in your cocktails. The experience will be worthwhile with some blues music, to indulge in the whiskey. If possible, take a tour of the distillery with MS Magical Mystery Tour and try out their sample vodka, whiskey, beer, gin, etc., or held to the concerts or gift shops.
