TTB filings and Nomunication recently revealed that Yamazaki Distillery is releasing a series of 2022 Limited Edition Single Malt whiskies. The series is Yamazaki “Tsukuriwake” Selections 2022 edition containing four single malt whiskies. The word “Tsukuriwake” as described by House of Suntory is defined as “Diversity in the Making”. The limited editions 2022 bottlings are:
- Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Spanish Oak 2022 Edition
- Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Puncheon 2022 Edition
- Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Peated Malt 2022 Edition
- Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Mizunara 2022 Edition
The labelling is having the Yamazaki Kanji and each label colouring is different showcasing the varied range of flavours of the whisky series. Each bottling has 48% ABV (96 Proof) for 700ml.
“While the TTB filings are intended for the US market, my guess is they will price mostly the same as the 2020 editions did here in Japan (that is, 11,000 yen for any of them except the Mizunara at 30,000 yen). Perhaps with a bit of an increase. And they will once again be on-trade only releases, meaning they will only be sold to bars/restaurants, and not directly to consumers.”
According to Nomunication
The Yamazaki 2022 Limited Edition Single Malt whiskies are expected to be released in the second half of this year, possibly around November 2022. At present, only the US version of the whisky label for Y2022 has appeared. However, its official suggested retail price and other information are currently unknown.
Yamazaki Distillery from House of Suntory is one of the famous distilleries producing award-winning Japanese spirits. The Yamazaki Distillery was opened by Shinjiro Torii in 1923. The Yamazaki Distillery has a history of producing exquisite premium spirits for nearly a hundred years.
Yamazaki Distillery had started a tradition of releasing single Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky in 2014. The release was discontinued after 2017. There are four limited-edition single malts released from 2014-2017: Yamazaki Single Malt Limited Edition 2014, Yamazaki Single Malt Limited Edition 2015 Yamazaki Single Malt Limited Edition 2016 Yamazaki Single Malt Limited Edition 2017. The entire collection of Yamazaki Limited Edition 2014-2017 is available at $3000.
In 2018 and 2019, the annual limited edition single malt whisky release was discontinued. However, in 2020, Yamazaki Distillery made a comeback with the annual limited edition by releasing 5 limited edition single malt whiskies in the market- Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Puncheon 2020 Edition, Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Bordeaux Wine Cask 2020 Edition, Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Spanish Oak 2020 Edition, Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Peated Malt 2020 Edition, and Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki Mizunara 2020 Edition. Each bottling has 48% ABV for 700ml and is priced at 11,000 yen, except the Mizunara edition which is priced at 30,000 yen.
In 2021, the distillery released a single Yamazaki Limited Edition 2021 along with Hibiki Blossom Harmony 2021. The labeling in the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2021 whisky has wood shavings texture and Yamazaki distillery sketch embedded. This whisky spirit is more smoky and spicy compared to its predecessors, as reported by Kanpai Planet. The single malt whisky has 43% ABV and is priced at $1,333.
