The Glen Grant Distillery has dedicated its recent release in celebration of the 60Th anniversary of the Master distiller, Denis Malcolm. The 60-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch whisky is the limited edition whisky announced in celebration of the storied six-decade-long career of Dennis Malcolm. He is known as one of Scotland’s longest-serving distillers. 2021 marks the beginning of the master distiller’s diamond year to the Scotch whisky industry.
The story of Dennis Malcolm
Dennis Malcolm’s story began with his birth on the Glen Grant distillery’s ground in 1946. His father and grandfather were also involved in the distillery’s whisky-making. Dennis started working at the age of 15 in 1961 as a copper apprentice in the Scotch whisky industry.
After developing a passion for single malts and supervising as Distillery Manager, he joined Glen Grant as the eighth Master Distiller in 2006. Dennis created history by producing one of the finest single malt Scotch whiskies of the distillery- Arboralis, 25-year-old, 10-year-old, etc. 2021 marks Dennis’s 60th anniversary in the Scotch whisky industry.

Reflecting on his diamond anniversary, Malcolm said in a prepared statement,
Dennis received the Whisky Advocate Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 and was honoured with the International Wine and Spirits Competition’s Outstanding Achievement in the Scotch Whisky Industry Award the same year. Malcolm’s crafted Glen Grant single malt scotch whiskies have earned him recognition for his service by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2016 when he was named as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
The making of 60-Year-Old Scotch whisky
The Glen Grant 60-Year-Old Scotch whisky is released in celebration of Dennis Malcolm’s 60th anniversary in the Scotch whisky industry. The expression will showcase the amazing six-decade career of Dennis to the world, where it combines Glen Grant’s history and Dennis’s whisky-making expertise inside the spirit.
The limited edition is bottled from a single ex-Oloroso sherry cask (#5040). The cask was filled on Oct. 24th, 1960 and it will be the distillery’s oldest bottling in its 181-year history. There will be just 360 decanters of this spirit available worldwide.
Each marked with a bespoke number, every one of the 360 decanters is made of hand-blown crystal glass, designed by Glencairn Studio, and they’re based on the design of the distillery’s tall, slender pot stills.
Each decanter is nestled in a presentation case crafted from sustainable walnut. And each presentation case has the master distiller’s signature engraved within it and includes a certificate of authenticity, signed personally by Malcolm.
“Our younger [expressions] have a nice surprise. They are a voyage of discovery. But the older ones are more soft, gentle, and sophisticated. And I think that’s the same with people. As you get older, you get softer, more fragile, more delicate, I suppose. Spirits are the very same,”

Tasting notes of 60-Year-Old Glen Grant Scotch
The official tasting notes include
- AROMA: Notes of vibrant Seville orange that give way to an unraveling of rich fruits and nuts; apricot, peaches, raisins, pecan nuts, and a hint of cigar smoke.
- PALATE: Rich and fruity in taste with a balance of dark chocolate layered with treacle toffee, the taste has elements of a liquid fruit cake
- FINISH: Long, lingering flavors of figs, dates, licorice, and a slight hint of smoke.
- BOTTLED AT: 105.6 Proof
- COLOR: Deep chestnut color
The Glen Grant 60-Year-Old Scotch whisky will be available for purchase at RRP of €25,000 (over USD 29,300) in select retailers in global markets in October of this year.
The Glen Grant Distillery
The distillery’s history began with brothers John and James Grant. The brothers were smugglers who later turned into visionary leaders and founded The Glen Grant distillery in 1840. Their boundless interest in industrial and technological advancements led to the construction of the northern railway. In 1839, brothers John and James Grant applied for a distillery license. The distillery location was near the sea and the port of Lossiemouth, the River Spey to the south, and the surrounding barley-growing plains, all the fundamental ingredients for malt whisky were close at hand. The creation of the railway by James Grant made it easier to build supply lines and led to other distillery construction in the area. In 1872, James Grant The Major revolutionized the water purifiers and elongated stills to produce single malt scotch whiskies. In 2006, the Campari Group acquired the distillery and appointed Dennis as the Master Distiller. Dennis continues to oversee the high standards and traditions of the Grant family and its descendants. The Glen Grant is the only distillery in the Speyside region that bottles every drop of whisky on-site.
