Cigar Malt Scotch Whisky

Tomintoul Whisky recently announced the release of the Tomintoul Cigar Malt (43% ABV), a rich and complex single malt whisky specially created by the company’s Master Distiller, Robert Fleming. Fleming also recently had a whisky released by the distillery in honor of his 30th anniversary there.

To create the new release, a combination of Tomintoul single malts were selected by Fleming from specially chosen vintages. It is said he then “carefully balanced them” with rare peated Tomintoul single malts that were either matured fully or finished in hand-selected Oloroso sherry butts, sourced from the partner bodegas in Andalucia, Spain.

“I am incredibly proud to release this new expression of Tomintoul, as I personally selected the range of Tomintoul single malts that make up this extremely complex and unique whisky,” Fleming said in a prepared statement. “The Tomintoul Cigar Malt has the perfect balance of sweetness and spice, with a rich smoky background.”

The Tomintoul Cigar Malt is also referred to as Tomintoul Cigar Malt Parejo by the brand, because it has been created to be the perfect ‘Parejo’ (Spanish for “partner”) to the world’s finest cigars. Official tasting notes indicate of this whisky that, with a bold aroma of dried fruit, sweet spices, pecan pie and subtle peat smoke, a sweet and rich taste of chocolate raisins, butter toffee and brambles mingled with dark pepper and smoky woody spices can be found on the palate. A warming and long finish completes the whisky with notes of mocha, maple syrup and toasted oak lingering on the tongue.
