The Story of Angostura
The story started in 1824 when Dr Siegert perfected the formula for Aromatic Bitters – Amargo Amartico. He curated this recipe for usage on the battlefield, he was the Surgeon General to the armies of Simon Bolivar. Around 1875, the family-owned business moved to Trinidad and was under the leadership of Carlos, Alfredo & Luis Siegert. The company at that time was called Dr J.G.B Siegert & Hijos. The production of bitters started in a small factory in the port of Spain and right after that Angostura Bitters entered the international market. In 1903, after the death of Carlos, the formula was trusted to Alfredo & Luis Siegert. On 30th August 1921, Angostura Bitters Limited was formed but in 1992 the company was renamed Angostura Limited. In 1955, the company appointed manufacturers of Angostura Bitters to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In 1985, Angostura Limited was bestowed with a National Award – The Hummingbird Gold Medal. In 2010, the company became a niche player in the international rum market and won prestigious awards for outstanding products. In December 2015, Angostura Limited commissioned their own Water Treatment Plant. In 2016, new launches were introduced and then a year later history was made, when Genevieve Jodhan was appointed as the first female CEO for Angostura. (February 2017).
