The Scottish brand Jura Single Malt whisky recently announced its latest addition to its portfolio: Jura Rum Cask Finish.
This single malt is said to be fruity, exotic and brings in the lively taste of the tropics to its range of whiskies, according to the distillery.
The spirit is first matured in American white oak, ex-bourbon barrels before finishing its maturation process in hand-selected Caribbean rum casks to create what’s seen as smooth, creamy and fruity finish.
Official tasting notes indicate the rum cask influence gives this single malt a warm and welcoming aroma of exotic guava and coconut, sugar-coated almonds, apricots and some citrus. The smooth taste has rich and creamy hints of sweet vanilla with fudge coming through, balanced with layers of fruit sweetness from mango, banana and guava.
“Our Jura Cask Editions have been created to showcase cask types in partnership with the Jura distillery character. The flavours offer interesting interpretations of our classic style, making them ideal for those looking to explore new flavours and finishes,” Gregg Glass, Whiskey Maker & Blender at Whyte & Mackay said. “With Jura Rum Cask Finish, the taste experience has been enhanced through the finish to create a beautifully tropical and fruity result. In making this release, we wanted to share a Single Malt that’s easy drinking and great value with compelling character!”
This expression is the third in the recently introduced Jura Cask Editions. It comes in a silver carton with a lush green leaf and tropical floral design to celebrate the heritage behind the whisky.
“Summer is on its way, and with it, consumers are seeking fruity, vibrant flavours that they can enjoy both mixed and on their own,” Kirsteen Beeston, head of international malts at Whyte & Mackay, said. “Jura Rum Cask Edition offers an easy-sipper that will transport taste buds to tropical islands by way of the remote Scottish island of Jura – whether in the comfort of a private balcony or garden.”
Jura Rum Cask Finish launched first in the UK in 2021, available at Tesco stores from mid-March at a suggested retail price of £45 for 1 litre.
Jura recommends customers serve the whisky alongside a piece of grilled or glazed pineapple or with a traditional Caribbean dish such as Jerk Chicken.
