1762 Gautier Cognac
This £35,000 bottle of 1762 Gautier Cognac is one of the worlds oldest authenticated vintages of the drink, dating back over three centuries. It was sold to an online bidder at an auction, it is a real piece of history, in fact, it still has the handwritten label on the bottle from when it was first bottled.
1858 Cognac Croizet Cuvée Léonie
This is a real vintage classic, bottled in the year 1859 from an 1858 harvest, this cognac is still in its original hand-blown bottle. Amazingly, the Croizet family vineyard found in Grande Champagne is still owned and run by that same family which first took ownership of the land in the 16th century. A bottle was sold at auction in the year 2011 and fetched in impressive $156,700 making it the third most expensive brandy on earth.
Rémy Martin Black Pearl Louis XIII
Rémy Martin are a well-established brand on the cognac scene and as such it’s to be expected that they’ve produced a cognac that is one of the most expensive in existence. The Rémy Martin Black Pearl Louis XIII is a brandy made with the finest grapes from Grande Champagne which are carefully selected for this drink which is traditionally crafted using a blend of 1200 eaux de vie. These are matured using an ancient tiercon and age from 40-100 years old. The bottle is stunning, it’s designed by Baccarat and made with black crystal which is hand blown into a design modelled on an old bottle that was found in Cognac during the 16th century, a testament to Louis XIII of France.
Mendis Coconut Brandy
This is certainly the newest bottle on the list, dating back just over ten years, making its first appearance in 2007. This is different because it is made from coconuts (brandy can in fact be made from all sorts). It was the first ever clear brandy that was made using them and is matured in Halmilla Casks. It’s worth a remarkable $1 Million, however if that price impresses you you’ll want to make sure you’re sitting down for the next one.
Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne
Here we have the most expensive brandy in the world, you may have noticed the incredible jump in price. It is worth £117 million and has been described as the ’DNA of Cognac’. It is only 100 years old which is young considering its price however the bottle itself is where the lofty price tag is truly founded. It comes in a bottle that’s made of both 24-carat gold and sterling platinum, if that wasn’t enough it is also garnished with an astounding 6,500 diamonds. It should come as no surprise then that this is the most expensive brandy on the planet and one of the most expensive spirits to boot.
